First, I have to thank my twitter buddy @runtonamaste for the title of my post. Last night, I took my first cake decorating class. This is something I have wanted to do for a while but there was always something else getting in the way. I finally stop making excuses and signed up for the class. I’ve actually have stopped making excuses for a lot of things but more to come on that later. I love to bake. I already know how to make cakes, cookies, cupcakes and other tasty treats. Now, I want to be able to decorate them and have them look aesthetically pleasing. I have only taken one class so far but I feel like I have learned SO much already! There are so many tricks, techniques, and cool gadgets (I am a gadgets nerd) that help make those gorgeous cakes you see in magazines and television. I have learned how to make icing from scratch and the different types of consistency you need for decorating a cake. Thin is for making printing and words, vining and leaves. Medium is for icing the cakes and making flowers and stars. Stiff is for making borders, flowers, and petals. I learned if you want pure white icing you have to make sure you use clear vanilla, butter, or almond extract. Hazelnut can change the color to a yellow-ish hue. I learned how to properly add icing to a bag, the different tips you can use and the shapes/decorations they can make. I could go on and on but I won’t. We were able to do a little decorating ourselves. So without further ado, I present to you: MasterPEACE!
