Do You
I have been wearing my hair natural for a little over a year (I think). Back then, I didn’t know about any websites that focused only on natural hair. I am happy to say that is not the case anymore. I know enough about natural hair to give others advice about transitioning, products, styling etc. Recently, a friend of mine has decided to go natural. She sent me an e-mail wanting to know a few things. I sent back a novel of information!
One of her “worries” is the reactions she will receive from people. She has been doing a lot of reading (as many new and old naturals do) and has seen that a lot of the women haven’t received the greatest response or encouragement from friends, family, and strangers.
I didn’t have any negative reactions from anyone in my family. My mom loves it, my husband says this is his favorite hairstyle I have had (he’s seen me in braids and relaxed hair) and I have a cousin that is “transitioning!” I have had strangers come up to me and tell me they like my hair and have asked for advice. So I guess I am one of the lucky ones……for now. Right now my hair is in braids but for all I know in a couple months or years I might get that ignorant comment or look from someone.
After telling her that my reactions have been positive, that put her mind at ease. I wanted to do something to help giver her a little more confidence to “embrace the kinks” so I designed and sent her a card for encouragement:

Can you PLEASE put that graphic on a t-shirt. I would rock the hell out of it! Great message girl. I've been natural for 3 years now and I get both negative and positive comments. At first the negative comments used to bother me but then I realized how much more empowered I felt with my natural hair. It's a bold move and it takes a bold, strong and confident woman to rock her God given tresses proudly. Do whatever makes you happy, be it natural or relaxed hair. Essentially, do you! 🙂

I'm loving the card, as stated on twitter when you posted it on Saturday. Do post when you have it in your shop as I'll make a purchase!

Thanks for the comments, ladies! As for a t-shirt, yes! I will put this on a shirt! Also cards and possibly a poster.
