Running in the Concrete Jungle

This is not a reference to me running in New York (just in case you were thinking of Jay Z and Alicia Keys’ song). I’m talking about road running. Guys, it’s getting scary out there. Sadly, I’m not even talking about the idiot drivers that have NO RESPECT FOR RUNNERS!! I will save that for another post. I am talking about Mother Nature’s children: animals. Not just animals but DEAD ONES!!
(Courtesy of this morning’s run)

Over the years I have seen more than one should see while trying to get their run on!
1. A squirrel that had been dead for quite some time that was eroding into the ground. I can still remember it’s beady eyes looking at me. *shudders*
2. An opossum in the bike line. Due to the fact that I was riding my bike at four in the morning, I didn’t see that bad boy until I was up close and personal.
3. Pancaked turtles!
4. Countless smashed frogs. You would’ve thought it was The Second Coming. I’ve seen most of these at the Riverfront in Downtown Columbia. I don’t have to worry about those anymore. I am not going back to that place. I have suffered a dislocated knee and getting thrown from by bike. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me
5. Snakes (such as the bad boy above!!!)
6. Last but certainly not least, and probably my most favorite (since it happened on my birthday), a dead squirrel  and snake on the edge of someone’s yard!!!
I took it upon myself to solve that mystery: The snake got the squirrel and while it was trying to get away, a car came and ran the snake over. Man! I felt bad for whoever’s yard that was.
I’m getting scared, people! Granted, the animals are dead but that’s what makes it scarier! For me it does.
Especially when I have loop back and see them AGAIN!!!
Am I the only one that has witnessed the “gifts”of Mother Nature?? Please tell me I’m not alone.
