Skin Care: Carrots

For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with skincare. My favorite part of fashion/beauty magazines have always been the articles or tips on skincare. I still use many of them to this day. The BEST articles were the ones that contained DIY recipes. I remember sneaking eggs, mayonnaise, and oatmeal to make various masks for my skin and hair. I carried around a bottle of clear polish that had garlic stuffed in it. I didn’t care if it made me smell. I wanted long nails. (It didn’t make me smell).

I recently got into juicing again on a regular basis and wvhile looking for recipes that would help promote glowing skin, great hair, and nails, the common denominator in all the recipes seemed to be carrots.

Just in case you want to know more about carrots, here is some information from this site:
Carrot is one of the most healing foods that provides the finest and highest quality in nutrients, especially from its juice. It is an excellent source of pro-vitamin A, vitamins C, D, E, K, B1 and B6.It is rich with biotin, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, organic sodium and some trace minerals.

I do at least 3 juices a day and at least one will contain carrots. I start the day with romaine lettuce, cucumber, celery, parsley, ginger, apple, lemon, spinach, kale, and carrots. The next juice usually has less ingredients: carrots, cucumbers, romaine lettuce, and an apple.

Taking care of my body externally is just as important as the internal. I heard great things about carrot oil for the skin.

I got the DIY itch and wanted to make some. It’s much easier than I thought.

What I did/used:
I took the “pulp” from two juiced carrots and evenly spreaded it out in my crockpot. I added olive oil (About 3/4-1 cup), coconut oil, 1 Tbsp of shea butter, broke a few capsules of Vitamin E and poured it in. I put my crockpot on the lowest setting (10 hours on mine) and just let it cook. You want it to cook enough for the pulp to soften and break down. this took about 1.5 hours. Once its cooked, pour the contents through a strainer into a container and you’re finished.Like most oils, a little of this goes a long way. I have been using it from head to toe. Any other skin-obsessed, DIY-aholics out there?
