The First Purge is the prequel in the Purge franchise and depicts how an experiment that started on Staten Island quickly went nationwide. I’m joined by my sister, Susane, and we discuss how we’re usually not fans of sequels, especially with horror films, but this one was really well made.

The Purge: Election Year. Leo Barnes is back and this time he’s protecting Senator Charlie Roan who wants to end The Purge due to tragically losing her family 18 years ago.  The NFFA isn’t too pleased she is gaining traction with voters so the original rule of government officials ranked 10 or higher is removed — everyone is free game. There’s also Laney, aka “Pequeña Muerte,” bodega owner, Joe and his employee Marcos. Plus, everyone’s favorite teenage psycho, Kimmy!

Every year, on March 21st, The Purge commences.

1. The Purge lasts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

2. All weapons up to Class 4 (explosives excluded) are permitted.

3. No government officials ranked 10 or higher can be harmed.

4. Emergency services (police, fire, and medical) are suspended for the night.

5. Violations of Purge rules result in execution.
